Hoofers Adapt Makes Hoofers Club More Accessible

Megan Gray and Kathryn Bach are second-year MSOT students in Dr. Karla Ausderau’s lab who have been working with the Wisconsin Hoofers and Hoofer Ambassadors to create Hoofers Adapt. Hoofers Adapt is a community of passionate individuals who aim to promote accessibility and inclusion in outdoor pursuits at UW-Madison and in the greater Madison community.

Since Hoofers Adapt started in January 2019, they have hosted biweekly meetings with students and individuals in the Madison community to plan inclusion-focused events, purchased an adapted tandem kayak, hosted an in-person training with the creator of the adapted kayak for hoofers members and Memorial Union staff, attended monthly adapted climbing events hosted by Boulder’s climbing gym, and volunteered at Winderfest’s adapted Nordic ski clinic. They have also been awarded the Inclusivity Bucky Award 2020 and been featured in two news articles: the Daily Cardinal and Terrace Views.
